Documents required for South Africa Visa

  • Original Passport with at least 6 months validity and minimum 3 blank pages + all old passports if any;
  • Visa Application form;
  • 2 recent colour photographs. view image
  • Personal Covering letter (For Employed - Plain paper/ For Self-Employed – Company Letterhead);
  • Original updated Bank statement of last 6 months. (with a balance of at least South African Currency R 3000 or equivalent in INR for Delhi and Mumbai);
  • Confirmed return flight tickets;
  • Hotel reservation;
  • Day wise itinerary / travel plan covering your stay in South Africa;
  • Vaccination certificate; (yellow fever) if applicant will travel through or stay in yellow fever belt.

Kindly note: The Govt is very strict on the photograph requirement; please ensure that your photos are as per the specifications.

Supporting documents as per your occupation, type of visit:

1. If Employed:

  • Original Leave sanctioned certificate with company seal and signature;
  • Last 3 months salary slip.

2. If Self Employed

  • Business Registration License / MOA / Partnership deed;
  • Company’s updated bank statement of last 6 months;
  • Company’s IT returns for last 3 years.

3. If Retired:

  • Proof of retirement like pension book, statement etc.

4. If Student

  • School / College / Institute ID Card;
  • Bonafide certificate.

5. If Minor

  • Birth Certificate;
  • No Objection Certificate from the parents / non-accompanying parent on Rs 100/- stamp paper;
  • ID proof of parent like passport or PAN card.

6. If Visiting friend or relative

  • Invitation letter;
  • Inviter’s ID proof like Passport or Resident Permit;
  • Address proof like any Electricity bill, any Utility bill etc.

7. If Sponsored

  • Sponsorship letter;
  • Sponsor’s national ID proof like Passport, PAN card or Resident permit;
  • Updated bank statement of last 6 months;
  • Income tax returns of last 3 years

8. For Business Visa

  • Invitation letter from host Company stating purpose of trip, business details etc;
  • Covering letter from Indian company on company letterhead.

FAQ of South Africa Visas

1. What are the different types of Visas for South Africa?

3. What is a standard processing time for Visa?

Standard processing time for South Africa Visa is 6 to 7 Working Days but in some cases, Consulate may take 20 to 25 working days as well. It depends upon consulate’s discretion totally.

4. Can Applicant submit his case on his own?

Yes applicant can submit case on his own directly to Chinese VFS Center OR he can avail services of Visa agent/Travel agents.

5. Is it a Direct Consulate submission or submission through VFS?

South African Consulates/Embassy of South Africa has appointed VFS as their official service partners & hence all passports have to be submitted through VFS only & direct submission in Consulate is not possible, unless otherwise advised by Consulate/Embassy to do so.

7. Can I apply for Visa through any South African VFS Center?

Consulate/Embassy of South Africa follow Visa Jurisdiction (Geographical Coverage of each Consulate), Place of Residence of Applicant continuously for last 6 months will decide his jurisdiction for Visa & then accordingly he has to apply for visa to respective VFS Center falling under his jurisdiction(below examples will throw more light on this)
a) If Applicant is based in Mumbai & for some work / meeting he has travelled to Delhi & wants to apply for South Africa visa, in this case as passenger is residing in Mumbai, his jurisdiction for Visa is Mumbai & not Delhi & hence even though South Africa VFS Center is in Delhi, he has to apply for his visa from Mumbai VFS & not Delhi.
b) If applicant’s passport is issued from Delhi but for last 6 months as he is staying in Chennai wants to apply for South Africa Visa, in this case as he is based in Chennai for last 6 months, his visa jurisdiction is Mumbai & hence he has to apply visa from any VFS Center falling under Mumbai Jurisdiction & not Delhi with residence Proof document.

8. What is the process for collection of passports?

Either passenger can personally go to VFS Center where he has submitted his application & collect the passport OR He can authorize any other Person or Travel agent by giving Authority Letter & Original VFS Receipts issued by VFS at the time of submission
